I discovered these guys today…

I love them!

 

I haven’t seen the movie, but I love Amit Trivedi’s work as I find it very often uplifting, yet deep, with that nice folk vibe…

And Dhanush is one of my favourite actor, so what a nice combo!

I hosted a Serbian girl home today, as she’s a folk dancer and musician, she made me discover some Serbian music.

So I digged a little bit into youtube for eastern european folk music and fell on this, which I like: Polish band Tulia.

I love dance as much as music, maybe more…

 

 

I really love the sound of Hindi, it’s a song by itself for me.

So if it’s in a beautiful song, I even like it more.

I started to improvise on melakartaragas recently…
I am using the scale as a start, not really follwing the raga scheme (what’s the difference here).
There is no pretention as I publish what has happened during 2 or 3 minutes without trying to make it sound good.
It is published as it happened…

 

I remember in 2008 whe I started to learn Carnatic music under Dr P.V. Bosein Pondicherry, he gave me some recordings to listen to.
Among the artists was a lot of Maharajapuram Santhanam concerts.

I remember at that time how I couldn’t appreciate the quality of it, in part because my ears were very new to Carnatic music, and the quality of the sound was very low.

 

Now after more than ten years, I can appreciate it so much, it is honey to my ears…

 

I now take time to learn and see beyond the surface before deciding to appreciate a new thing or not…

I discovered european traditional music quite late in my musical path.

I had to go to Africa and India to quench my thirst of sounds that were not shallow products of a globalised and rather tasteless mainstream culture.
Little did I know that there was a collective of people all around Europe playing our traditional music and dancing on it…
